Ministries
for Families
All work and no play makes any family dull--even a church family. The
Fellowship Committee of our church plans a variety of all-church
activities during the year so that members and friends of the church can
get together just for fun. Some examples:
~Bingo Nights
~Game Nights
~Baseball Game trips
~Theater trips
Please join us for all of the programs planned
this year...and bring a friend. Do you have an idea for a fun activity?
Annual events:
Advent Festival
Christmas Music Sunday
Annual Dinner

At First
Presbyterian, we are committed to caring for members of our
family--especially those who are going through crises, who are sick,
dying, grieving losses, homebound or elderly and not able to get around.
Our very active Board of Deacons is devoted to caring for and nurturing
those in our family who have special needs. Here are some of the ways we
care for one another:
Pastoral
Visitation
Our pastors regularly visit
members who are hospitalized, sick and/or recovering from illness and
those who are homebound. Our pastors also are available for short-term
counseling on an appointment basis.
(Contact Rev. Estes-Collins at 451-6223)
Visitation
To those who are hospitalized, sick, homebound or have other special
needs. The deacons maintain a monthly contact with home-bound and
special-need members by personal visits, telephone calls and greeting
cards. Another group of older members are contacted quarterly.
Communion
Deacons prepare the elements and help serve communion to the
congregation. Deacons also schedule and accompany pastors as they take
communion to shut-ins quarterly.
Food
Collection
Food collection and delivery to the receiving organization is a deacon
project each month except March, November and December.
Card Care
Board
Every week you will find greeting cards on a lectern just outside the
sanctuary doors. These cards are sent to those who are hospitalized, to
those who have had a loved one die, and to other members/friends who are
sick or homebound. You are invited to sign the cards and write a brief
greeting if you wish.
The
Deacon's Closet
The deacons maintain a list of home-health equipment that can be loaned
to someone with a temporary need. The list of available equipment is on
the deacons' section of the kiosk.
(Contact the church office--451-6223)
Funeral
Receptions
The deacons will arrange for serving light refreshments following
funeral or memorial services here at First Presbyterian.
(Contact the church office - 451-6223.)
SPECIAL
EVENTS
Deacon's
Sunday
On this Sunday the congregation is encouraged to support the Deacon
fund. Our pastor may tap the fund to respond to emergency needs of
members.
Senior
Brunch
On one Spring Sunday following worship, the Deacons prepare and serve a
brunch to our over-seventy members and spouses.
